Inline Water Flow Indicator DN25 — Threaded Paddle Type

The CA-FIRE DN25 inline water flow indicator is the dedicated small-pipe variant of our paddle-vane flow detector family. Instead of clamping onto the outside of the pipe with a saddle, the unit threads directly into the pipe run at both ends — making it the only correct choice for 1-inch / DN25 sprinkler branches where saddle-mount units cannot fit. Supplied with NPT, BSP or BSPT thread options to match your regional installation standard.

DN25 / 1 inch — the correct size for small sprinkler branches
Inline threaded connection — cuts into pipe, no saddle
NPT · BSP · BSPT thread options — specify on order
15 L/min alarm flow — one open sprinkler head
Dual NC contacts DC24V 1A / AC220V 0.5A
Lowest-cost option in the CA-FIRE flow indicator series

What Is an Inline Water Flow Indicator?

An inline water flow indicator — also searched as "in line water flow indicator" or "threaded paddle flow switch" — is a flow detector that installs directly in the pipe run with threaded connections at both ends. Water must pass through the body of the indicator, where a paddle vane sits permanently in the flow path and actuates a micro-switch when water begins to move.

This format is different from the more common saddle-mount style, which clamps onto the outside of the pipe. Inline units are used on small-diameter sprinkler branches (typically DN25 / 1 inch) where saddle-mount units would be physically too large to fit. The electrical output, alarm flow behaviour and FACP connection are the same as any paddle-type flow indicator.

Inline vs In-Line — Same Product
Inline
Preferred single-word spelling, common in North America.
In Line
Two-word spelling, common in the UK and Commonwealth markets.
In-Line
Hyphenated variant. All three describe the exact same product.
Threaded
Refers to the NPT/BSP end connections used to install inline.

Inline DN25 or Saddle-Mount? Choose by Pipe Size

The choice between inline DN25 and saddle-mount ZSJZ is not a performance trade-off — it is determined entirely by the diameter of the pipe you are installing on. Use the guide below to specify correctly the first time.

Use Inline DN25
Pipe is DN25 / 1 inch
The inline threaded model is the only option
  • Single-zone residential sprinkler systems
  • Small office or hotel-room branch lines
  • Light-hazard retail fit-outs (cafes, boutiques)
  • Retrofit zones with small-bore pipe only
  • Secondary branches feeding 2-6 sprinkler heads
  • Any pipe where a saddle U-bolt physically will not fit
Saddle-mount flow indicators start at DN50 — they cannot clamp around DN25 pipe. On DN25 you must use an inline threaded unit.
Pipe is DN50 or Larger
Switch to the saddle-mount ZSJZ
  • Main sprinkler risers (DN50 to DN300)
  • Branch mains in commercial buildings
  • Floor-level zone indicators in high-rises
  • Warehouse and factory sprinkler branches
  • Any pipe run where saddle mounting avoids pipe cutting
  • Retrofit projects where pipe must stay pressurised
On DN50 and larger, saddle-mount is faster to install and avoids interrupting the pipe run. View saddle-type ZSJZ →

Inline DN25 Design Features

🔩
Threaded Inline Body
Brass or nickel-plated steel body with female threaded ports at both ends. Installs between two lengths of threaded DN25 sprinkler pipe using standard PTFE tape sealing — no special tools, no hole-saw required.
🌍
Multi-Region Thread Options
Specify NPT for North American projects, BSP or BSPT for Europe, Middle East, SE Asia, Africa, Australia. Thread type must be confirmed at order — units are not field-convertible.
🧩
Compact Footprint
Small overall body length fits into ceiling voids, wall chases and service risers where a saddle-mount unit with U-bolts would not have clearance. Ideal for residential and hospitality fit-outs.
⚙️
Same Switch Platform
Uses the identical Hall-effect micro-switch as the larger ZSJZ saddle family — dual NC contacts, DC24V 1A / AC220V 0.5A. Standardises FACP wiring across the whole sprinkler system.
⏱️
Retard Delay
Factory-set retard delay (~20 seconds) filters pressure surges from system top-up or water-hammer. Only sustained flow from a genuine sprinkler activation will trigger the alarm.
💰
Lowest-Cost Option
The DN25 inline unit is the most cost-effective flow indicator in the CA-FIRE range. Bulk pricing drops meaningfully above 500 pieces — ideal for residential developments and multi-unit projects.

Specify Your Thread Standard

Three thread options cover every international sprinkler code. The thread type is machined at the factory and cannot be field-converted, so confirm at order stage based on your project specification.

NPT
National Pipe Taper
🇺🇸 North America
Tapered thread sealing on thread engagement with PTFE tape. Standard across USA, Canada, Mexico and projects specified to ANSI / NFPA standards. 1-inch NPT (25.4 mm nominal, 14 TPI).
BSPT
British Standard Pipe Tapered
🌍 UK · ME · SEA · AF
Tapered thread equivalent used in the UK, GCC (UAE, Saudi, Oman, Kuwait), Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia), Africa, Australia and New Zealand. 1-inch BSPT (R1″, 11 TPI).
BSP
British Standard Parallel
🌍 EU · Special Projects
Parallel thread (G1″) that seals on a bonded washer or O-ring at the joint face rather than thread engagement. Less common in fire service — specify only if explicitly required by the project engineer.

Full Technical Specifications

Single-size unit — one spec table covers everything. Wiring, signal output and FACP behaviour are identical to the ZSJZ saddle-mount family, so installations mixing saddle and inline units can use common electrical drawings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an inline water flow indicator?
An inline water flow indicator is a paddle-vane flow detector that installs directly in line with the pipe using threaded connections at both ends, rather than clamping to the outside of the pipe with a saddle. The pipe must be cut at the install location and the indicator threads in as part of the pipe run. It is the correct format for small-diameter sprinkler branches (typically DN25 / 1 inch) where a saddle-mount unit would be oversized.
When should I use an inline DN25 flow indicator instead of a saddle-mount?
Use the inline DN25 threaded flow indicator when the sprinkler pipe diameter is 1 inch (DN25). Saddle-mount flow indicators start at DN50 and physically will not clamp around smaller pipe. Typical DN25 applications include: single-zone residential sprinklers, small office unit branches, hotel guest-room branches, light-hazard retail fit-outs, and retrofit zones where only small-bore pipe is present. For any pipe DN50 and larger, the saddle-mount ZSJZ is the correct choice.
What is the difference between NPT, BSP and BSPT thread options?
NPT (National Pipe Taper) is the US standard tapered pipe thread, used in North America and in projects specified to ANSI standards. BSPT (British Standard Pipe Tapered) is the tapered equivalent used in the UK, Commonwealth countries and most of Asia. BSP (British Standard Parallel) is the parallel thread version that seals on a bonded washer rather than thread engagement. For fire sprinkler service where pressure is continuous, BSPT or NPT tapered threads are standard. Specify the thread type when ordering — switching is not possible after manufacture.
What is the alarm flow rate for DN25 inline flow indicator?
The DN25 inline water flow indicator is calibrated for a minimum sustained alarm flow of 15 litres per minute — equivalent to the flow from one standard sprinkler head. The built-in retard delay (factory-set around 20 seconds) filters out short pressure surges from system top-up or water-hammer, ensuring alarms only trigger for genuine sprinkler activation.
Can the inline DN25 flow indicator be used on residential sprinkler systems?
Yes. The DN25 inline flow indicator is commonly specified on residential sprinkler systems where pipe sizing is small and installation space is limited. The unit provides the same dual NC contact output as larger saddle units, and connects directly to a residential fire alarm panel or smoke/heat detector control. For multi-family housing with larger riser pipes, combine DN25 inline units on unit branches with a saddle-mount ZSJZ on the main riser.
What is the MOQ and lead time for DN25 inline flow indicators?
Minimum order quantity is 100 pieces for DN25 inline flow indicators, with a standard lead time of 15 to 20 working days. Because the unit is smaller and less material-intensive than the saddle-mount ZSJZ, per-unit pricing drops meaningfully at volumes of 500 pieces and above — contact our sales team for bulk pricing on large residential or hospitality projects.
