The Complete Range of Fire Protection Gate Valves — DN50 to DN400
CA-FIRE manufactures a full range of gate valves and pipeline strainers for fire sprinkler, standpipe, deluge, and fire pump systems. Every product is built to fire protection service — full-bore, bi-directional, zero-restriction isolation with ductile iron bodies and fusion-bonded epoxy coating for corrosion resistance in continuously pressurised systems.
From the flanged OS&Y rising-stem valve required by NFPA 13 on sprinkler risers, to Victaulic-compatible grooved gate valves for fast commercial installation, to supervisory tamper-switch valves for FACP alarm integration — CA-FIRE covers all 9 products in a complete gate valve range for fire protection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions from fire protection contractors, engineers and project procurement teams.
What is the difference between OS&Y and NRS gate valves?
OS&Y (Outside Screw and Yoke) is a rising-stem design — the stem physically rises out of the valve body when the valve is opened. This gives an immediate visual confirmation of valve position from across the room, which is why NFPA 13 specifies OS&Y valves on most sprinkler risers.
NRS (Non-Rising Stem) uses an internal threaded stem that rotates in place without extending upward. A dial indicator on top shows open/closed position. NRS valves are preferred for underground pits, buried mains, and ceiling voids where vertical clearance is limited.
Which gate valve do I need for an NFPA 13 sprinkler riser?
NFPA 13 requires a listed indicating control valve on every sprinkler system riser. The two most common compliant options are an OS&Y Gate Valve (flanged) or a Rising Stem Grooved Gate Valve for grooved-pipe systems. Both provide the visual open/closed indication the standard requires.
If the sprinkler system is monitored by a fire alarm control panel, the valve must also be supervised — either by adding a tamper switch to an OS&Y valve, or by specifying our integrated Gate Valve with Tamper Switch or Signal Gate Valve ZSXZF4.
What is the difference between a tamper switch valve and a signal gate valve?
A tamper switch valve uses a single SPDT (single-pole double-throw) micro-switch that trips when the valve moves off its fully-open position. It sends one supervisory signal — "valve not fully open" — to the fire alarm control panel. This meets NFPA 72 for supervised shut-off valves.
A signal gate valve (ZSXZF4) has two independent micro-switches that confirm both the fully-open and the fully-closed positions separately. This gives complete status feedback, which is essential for BMS integration, automatic deluge systems, and any application where the control system needs to know whether a valve is mid-travel, fully open, or fully closed.
Are CA-FIRE grooved gate valves compatible with Victaulic couplings?
Yes. All CA-FIRE grooved-end gate valves and Y strainers are machined to AWWA C606 / ANSI-AWWA groove dimensions and are fully interchangeable with Victaulic-style rigid and flexible couplings from all major brands, including Victaulic, Gruvlok, Shurjoint and Tyco.
Groove dimensions are controlled on a CNC groover and inspected to the standard roll-groove spec for each nominal size from DN50 through DN300.
What is the working pressure and test pressure of CA-FIRE gate valves?
All gate valves in the CA-FIRE series are rated for 1.6 MPa (232 psi / PN16) continuous working pressure. Every valve is shell-tested at 6.4 MPa — four times the working pressure — and seat-tested for zero-leak closure before shipping.
For higher-pressure applications such as high-rise standpipe zones above 100 m, please contact our engineering team for PN25 options.
What media can these valves handle?
The gate valves are designed for fire protection service and handle water, foam-water solution, and similar non-aggressive media at a temperature range of 4 °C to 70 °C. They are equally suitable for wet-pipe sprinkler systems, deluge systems, standpipe risers, and fire pump discharge piping.
For corrosive or saline water (e.g. seawater deluge on offshore platforms), we recommend specifying the Resilient Wedge Gate Valve — its full EPDM rubber-encapsulated wedge isolates the water from the iron components and eliminates corrosion-related seat wear.
What are the electrical specifications of the supervisory switch?
The tamper and signal switches on CA-FIRE supervised gate valves are rated at DC 24V / 0.5A, which matches the supervisory circuit voltage used by virtually all fire alarm control panels worldwide. The switch enclosure is IP54-rated for indoor and protected-outdoor installations.
Wiring is terminated in a sealed junction box on top of the valve, with standard cable-gland entry for field wiring to the FACP or BMS.
What body material and corrosion protection do CA-FIRE gate valves use?
The body, bonnet and wedge core are cast from ductile iron (EN-GJS-500-7) — the industry standard for fire protection gate valves. Ductile iron gives far higher tensile strength and impact resistance than grey cast iron while remaining cost-effective.
Every valve is protected inside and outside with a fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) coating applied by electrostatic spray — the same coating used on potable water mains. This prevents corrosion in continuously wet sprinkler systems and gives a minimum 25-year service life under normal fire-protection conditions.
Do you supply to international fire protection projects?
Yes. CA-FIRE exports to more than 60 countries across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America. We supply direct to EPC contractors, fire protection integrators, distributors and end-user projects.
Standard support package includes: product submittal datasheets, CAD drawings (DWG/PDF), material test certificates, hydrostatic test reports, and ISO 9001 / CCCF certification documents — all available on request before purchase.
What is the typical lead time and MOQ?
Lead time depends on order size and whether stock items are available. Typical timelines:
Stock items (common sizes DN50–DN200): 7–15 days from payment. Production orders: 25–35 days for a full 20' or 40' container. OEM / custom orders (private brand, custom handwheel colour, non-standard flanges): 35–45 days.
There is no fixed MOQ for standard products — we regularly handle small trial orders, single-project shipments, and full container loads. OEM branding typically requires 50 units minimum per size.
Can CA-FIRE supply matching check valves, butterfly valves and fittings?
Yes. Gate valves are one product line in a complete fire protection pipeline portfolio. We also manufacture butterfly valves with tamper switches, swing and wafer check valves, alarm check valves, deluge valves, grooved fittings and couplings, fire sprinklers, and Y-type strainers — all to the same PN16 / 1.6 MPa standard.
Ordering multiple product lines from a single manufacturer simplifies project logistics, shortens lead time, and keeps all documentation and warranty under one supplier.
