Gear Control Fire Monitor

The CA-FIRE WFS series is a gear (hand wheel) control fire monitor — a fire fighting ground monitor with a self-locking worm gear mechanism. The gear holds the nozzle precisely on target under full reaction force, without the operator maintaining pressure, making it the correct choice for high-flow sustained discharge and precision fixed-target aim.

Built on a stainless steel SS304/SS316 body, available in straight stream, fog, stacked-tip and foam-water configurations, from 1,200 to 4,800 LPM.

Key Features

Self-Locking Worm Gear
Mechanically irreversible gear holds the aimed position on both axes under full reaction force — the nozzle cannot drift, even at 4,800 LPM, with no operator pressure required.
No Operator Fatigue
Hand wheel released, aim maintained. The operator does not need to hold the monitor against the reaction force for the full discharge duration — ideal for sustained operation.
Precise Incremental Aim
Fine hand-wheel adjustment without overshoot — accurately directs the jet onto a fixed target such as a tank, vessel or process unit.
SS304 / SS316 Body
Corrosion-resistant stainless steel body with BS4504 / ANSI 150 / GB flange and 2.5" / 3" / 4" inlet, for long service life in outdoor and industrial environments.

Nozzle & Configuration Options

WFS gear control fire monitor with aluminium alloy nozzle
Aluminium Alloy Nozzle (AF / AS)
Lightweight aluminium alloy stream/fog nozzle with the self-locking gear — reduces weight while keeping the full 1,200–4,800 LPM flow range and 120° fog angle.
WFS gear control fire monitor straight stream nozzle
Straight Stream / Stacked-Tip (AZ / AZ-4)
Straight-stream and stacked-tip nozzles for maximum throw distance — up to 85 m — where the self-locking gear holds the long-range jet precisely on a fixed target.
WFS gear control foam water fire monitor SP nozzle
Foam-Water Nozzle (SP)
Air-aspirating foam-water nozzle for Class B fires — petroleum, solvents and fuels — combining the self-locking gear with foam suppression for tank farms and loading racks.
WFS gear control foam water fire monitor SQ nozzle with hose
Foam-Water Nozzle (SQ)
Alternative foam-water configuration delivering the same 1,440–3,840 LPM flow with water reach to 75 m and foam reach to 70 m, for Class B hazard protection.

Foam-water gear monitors for Class B (petroleum, solvent) fires. Combines self-locking gear with air-aspirating foam nozzle. Requires upstream foam proportioner and concentrate supply.

Applications

🏭
Petrochemical Units
High-flow sustained discharge on process units where the nozzle must hold a fixed aim under heavy reaction force for long periods.
🛢️
Tank Farms (Foam)
Foam-water WFS models protect oil storage tank farms and loading racks requiring Class B suppression with self-locking aim.
Power & Transformer
Precise fixed-target aim onto transformers and high-value equipment, holding position without operator effort during a sustained event.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a gear control fire monitor self-lock in position?
The WFS gear mechanism is mechanically irreversible — the hand wheel can drive the nozzle, but the nozzle reaction force cannot drive the gear backwards. The monitor holds its exact aimed position on both horizontal and vertical axes under full reaction force, with no operator pressure required on the hand wheel.
When should I choose gear control over tiller control?
Choose WFS gear control for high-flow sustained discharge above 2,400 LPM and precise fixed-target aim. Choose TFS tiller control for fast manual traverse at attended lower-flow positions.
What flow rates and reach does the WFS series cover?
1,200–4,800 LPM with a maximum reach of 50–85 m at 8 bar. Foam-water WFS models cover 1,440–3,840 LPM with a water reach up to 75 m and a foam reach up to 70 m.
Is the WFS available in foam-water configuration?
Yes. The WFS.SP and WFS.SQ models are foam-water monitors for Class B fires such as petroleum and solvents, combining the self-locking gear with an air-aspirating foam nozzle. Flow rates 1,440–3,840 LPM.
What body material and flange standards are used?
Stainless steel SS304 or SS316 body, with a stainless steel + brass or aluminium alloy nozzle. Flange standards are BS4504, ANSI 150 and GB, with 2.5", 3" and 4" inlet sizes depending on flow rate.
