Multi-Functional Fire Nozzle — Foam Sleeve & Modular Tips

One nozzle. Four working modes. Four optional tips. The CA-FIRE multi-functional fire nozzle replaces an entire shelf of single-purpose equipment with a single ergonomic body. Slide the sleeve forward for Type B air-aspirated foam, retract it for plain water and fog, fold the head completely for Type A foam — and swap in piercing, foam or chimney tips when the scenario demands a specialised tool.

The Nozzle That Replaces a Truck-Bed of Equipment

A standard adjustable nozzle changes flow rate and spray pattern, but the working medium is always water. A standard foam nozzle produces excellent foam, but cannot deliver an effective water stream. The multi-functional fire nozzle bridges that gap — one nozzle body, multiple discharge configurations, all switched at the line without changing equipment.

The CA-FIRE multi-functional range covers four primary models. The flagship QD6.0/16III is the foldable, large-flow city-and-petrochemical workhorse — 960 LPM at 41-metre reach, with the full foldable Type A / Type B / water mode triad. The QD6.0/8III is the standard 1.5"/2.5" municipal model with retractable foam sleeve (115–475 LPM). The two QDH dual-flow nozzles (QDH6.0/500-250 and QDH6.0/1350) deliver straight stream AND fog simultaneously — independently controllable — for crews that need both penetration and personnel protection from a single line.

The modular-tip system goes one step further: the same body accepts four interchangeable tips (piercing, adjustable flow, foam, chimney) that snap on without tools, converting one nozzle into four completely different fire fighting tools for the cost and storage footprint of one.

Why Choose Multi-Functional

  • One nozzle covers water + fog + Type A foam + Type B foam — no equipment swap on the line
  • Retractable foam sleeve switches water-to-foam in under 2 seconds
  • Fold the head completely for Type A air-aspirated foam — no sleeve needed
  • Modular tip system (piercing / foam / chimney / adj. flow) — 4 tools, 1 body
  • Dual-flow QDH models deliver straight + fog simultaneously, independently controlled
  • Strong lightweight anodised aluminium with streamline inner-wall flow channel
  • Permanent laser-engraved operational markings — operate by feel in low visibility
  • DuPont™ nylon pistol grip with heat-insulation rubber coating
  • 360° rotating coupling prevents hose twist during operation
  • Stainless steel spinning teeth for crisp fog pattern over service life
  • Compatible with Storz / Machino / NH / NPSH couplings

Four Modes, One Nozzle Body

Rotate the sleeve, slide it, or fold the head — and the same QD-Series body becomes four entirely different fire fighting tools. Mode changes happen at the line without stopping the water supply.

When Versatility Beats Specialisation

🚒

Municipal First-Due Engine

The first-arriving engine cannot know in advance whether the fire is a kitchen pan, a vehicle, a fuel spill, or a basement of solvents. The QD6.0/8III with retractable foam sleeve gives the crew water-and-fog for the structural fire AND foam capability for the liquid fire — without dropping the line to swap nozzles.

Recommended: QD6.0/8III
🏭

Petrochemical Plant Response

Process unit fires can transition from liquid to solid to vapour cloud and back in minutes. The flagship QD6.0/16III delivers 960 LPM at 41-metre reach with full foldable Type A / Type B foam capability — one nozzle handles the entire incident through every phase, then becomes a water nozzle for overhaul.

Recommended: QD6.0/16III
🛡️

Advancing Through Radiant Heat

When firefighters must advance through high radiant heat (tank rim, vapour cloud, exposure protection), the QDH dual-flow nozzles deliver a focused straight stream for attack AND a wide fog pattern for crew cooling — simultaneously, from a single nozzle, with independent control of each stream.

Recommended: QDH6.0/1350
🚛

Vehicle & Container Fires

A fire in a heavy goods vehicle, shipping container or vehicle engine bay often requires entry through sheet metal walls. The tip-modular multi-functional body lets the crew start with adjustable-flow water, then swap to the piercing tip to penetrate the wall, then back to fog for the cooled compartment — all on the same nozzle, no tools.

Recommended: Tip-Modular Body + Piercing Tip
🏚️

Compact Compartment & Dead-Corner Fires

Roof voids, chimney fires, lampblack channels and sewer fires are unreachable with a straight nozzle. Snap on the chimney tip (360° turning head, 100 LPM) to deliver water around corners and into spaces that would otherwise need a separate dedicated nozzle in the truck inventory.

Recommended: Tip-Modular Body + Chimney Tip
🚁

Small Tender & ARFF Response

Compact response vehicles, airport rapid intervention vehicles and forestry trucks have limited equipment storage. The tip-modular multi-functional nozzle gives the crew the equivalent of four nozzles in one storage footprint — adjustable, foam, piercing and chimney — without the weight and space penalty.

Frequently Asked Questions — Multi-Functional Fire Nozzle

What is a multi-functional fire nozzle?
A multi-functional fire nozzle is a handheld fire fighting nozzle that does more than one job in one device. Where a standard adjustable nozzle only changes flow rate and spray pattern (water-only), a CA-FIRE multi-functional nozzle additionally switches between plain water, Type B air-aspirated foam (foam sleeve extended), and Type A foam (head folded). The tip-modular variant accepts removable piercing, foam, chimney or adjustable-flow tips — making one nozzle handle scenarios that would otherwise need four separate tools.
What is the difference between an adjustable nozzle and a multi-functional nozzle?
An adjustable nozzle (CA-FIRE QLD Series) changes flow rate (e.g. 115/230/360/475 LPM) and spray pattern (jet/fog) — all using water as the medium. A multi-functional nozzle (CA-FIRE QD Series) does that AND can switch the working medium between water, air-aspirated Type B foam, and folded-mode Type A foam. The optional-tips variant goes further still: snap on a piercing tip, foam tip or chimney tip to convert the same body to a completely different tool.
How does the foldable foam sleeve work on the QD multi-functional nozzle?
The QD-Series nozzle body has an outer sleeve that slides forward or back over the discharge head. In the retracted position the nozzle operates exactly like a standard adjustable flow rate nozzle — water-only with jet/fog control. In the extended position the sleeve covers air-aspiration ports and converts the nozzle into a Type B foam nozzle producing expanded foam. Fold the nozzle head completely and the nozzle becomes a Type A foam nozzle for tank and ground fuel fires. Three mode changes, no tools, all at the line without stopping water supply.
What optional tips are available on the multi-functional nozzle?
Four interchangeable tips are available: (1) Piercing Tip — stainless steel spike for vehicle, container and hidden-void fires (600 LPM @ 7 bar). See dedicated piercing nozzle; (2) Adjustable Flow Rate Tip — full 115/230/360/475 LPM jet-to-fog control with reach ≥34m; (3) Foam Tip — Type A foam delivery at 600 LPM. See dedicated foam nozzle; (4) Chimney Tip — 360° turning head for chandeliers, sewers and dead corners (100 LPM). See dedicated specialty nozzle. All tips share the same coupling and swap in seconds without tools.
Which QD multi-functional model should I choose?
QD6.0/16III (330–960 LPM, 41 m reach, 3.3 kg) is the large-flow flagship for city fire response and petrochemical plant fires. QD6.0/8III (115–475 LPM, 34 m reach, 2.13 kg) is the standard 1.5"/2.5" model with retractable foam sleeve. QDH6.0/500-250 and QDH6.0/1350 are dual-flow multipurpose nozzles that discharge straight stream and fog simultaneously or independently — for crews that need both penetration and personnel protection at the same time. For storage-constrained crews wanting maximum versatility from one body, the tip-modular variant accepting all 4 optional tips is the most flexible choice.
Can a multi-functional nozzle replace separate foam and water nozzles?
For many municipal and industrial brigades, yes — one QD6.0/8III replaces a separate adjustable water nozzle plus a Type B foam nozzle plus a Type A foam nozzle. For dedicated, high-volume foam operations (tank farm fires, refinery process units, fuel depots) a purpose-built nozzle from our foam nozzle range delivers higher expansion ratio and longer continuous run time. The multi-functional is the right answer when a crew needs versatility from a single nozzle on the line; the dedicated foam nozzle is the right answer for a known foam application.
What is the working pressure of CA-FIRE multi-functional nozzles?
All CA-FIRE QD-Series and QDH-Series multi-functional nozzles operate at the standard handheld nozzle pressure of 7 bar (≈100 PSI). At this pressure the QD6.0/16III delivers up to 960 LPM with 41 metres of reach. Custom pressure ratings are available on OEM orders. Note that pairing with an inline foam eductor (FE095/FE125/FE250) requires 14 bar inlet pressure to drive the eductor venturi — see our foam nozzle page for foam-system pressure design.
Are the optional tips compatible with other CA-FIRE nozzle bodies?
The four optional tips are designed specifically for the multi-functional nozzle body. The tip coupling and lock-ring system are proprietary to this product line. If you require a standalone piercing, foam, chimney or adjustable-flow nozzle (full nozzle body + integrated tip), each is available as a dedicated product — see the individual product pages linked above. For OEM custom adapters between tips and other nozzle bodies, contact sales@ca-fire.com.
What standards does the multi-functional nozzle meet?
CA-FIRE handheld fire nozzles are designed and tested to Chinese national standard GB 8181 and are compatible with NFPA 1964 (Spray Nozzles) installation specifications. The foam-capable modes are tested per GB 18428 for foam discharge performance. All products are manufactured under ISO 9001 quality management with 100% pressure testing before shipment. Full test certificates, foam expansion ratio reports, and CAD drawings are provided for every order. PICC product liability insurance covers all shipments.
