The CA-FIRE PS10-80W-L Series is a portable fire water monitor (portable ground monitor) built from lightweight aluminium alloy for rapid deployment in any location without a fixed pipe base, anchor bolts or tools. Connect to a supply hose, set on the ground, aim and discharge — setup by one person in under one minute.

The series covers a full flow range from 20 L/s (PS8/20W-L) to 80 L/s (PS10/80W-L) with a maximum throw range of ≥85 m. The adjustable nozzle switches between a straight jet for maximum range and a spray cone for cooling and personnel protection. The lightweight aluminium alloy body reduces fatigue during ARFF operations, industrial emergency response and any application where the monitor must be carried, repositioned and redeployed during an active fire incident.

Key Design Features

🪶
Lightweight Aluminium Alloy
The aluminium alloy body is significantly lighter than an equivalent stainless steel monitor — making the PS10-80W-L practical for one firefighter to carry from a vehicle, position at the fire scene and operate without assistance. Reduced weight also lowers fatigue during extended ARFF operations.
No-Tool Deployment
The monitor sets up on the ground on its integral base legs without any tools, bolts or anchors. The hose inlet connects with the standard fire hose coupling — the same coupling used across fire brigade hose equipment. From vehicle to discharging water: under one minute.
🔄
Full 360° Ground Rotation
The monitor rotates 360° horizontally and elevates from –15° to +60° from the ground position, giving the operator complete directional coverage without moving the base. This is critical when the monitor is pre-positioned and the operator needs to cover a changing fire front.
🎯
Adjustable Nozzle Pattern
The nozzle tip adjusts continuously between straight jet (maximum throw ≥85 m at PS10/80W-L) and wide spray cone for cooling, vapour suppression or creating a water curtain to protect personnel. Pattern change is continuous and does not interrupt water discharge.
📦
Compact Storage Profile
The PS10-80W-L folds to a compact profile for storage in fire appliance lockers, vehicle equipment bays and site emergency response stores. The lightweight aluminium construction means multiple units can be carried on a single vehicle without significant weight penalty.
🌊
Full Flow Range: 20–80 L/s
Six models cover everything from a supplementary position at 20 L/s (PS8/20W-L) up to a maximum-flow main attack monitor at 80 L/s (PS10/80W-L). This allows the same product family to be used across all portable monitor positions at a large facility with a single stock item per flow rate.

Typical Applications

✈️
Airport ARFF Operations
Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) teams use portable monitors for rapid deployment at aircraft incidents on runways and taxiways. The lightweight aluminium body allows ARFF firefighters to carry and position PS10/60W-L and PS10/80W-L monitors from an ARFF vehicle to the incident point in seconds.
🏭
Industrial Emergency Response
Industrial sites — refineries, chemical plants, power stations — pre-position portable monitors at emergency response staging areas for use when fixed monitor coverage is insufficient or when a fire develops in a location not covered by fixed monitors. The portability allows response teams to bring high-flow water attack to the exact fire location.
🚒
Fire Brigade Ground Monitors
Municipal and industrial fire brigades carry portable monitors on appliances as supplementary equipment. The PS10-80W-L provides high-flow capability beyond what hose nozzles alone can deliver, and can be set up at a safe distance from the fire and left attended while the crew tackles other aspects of the incident.
🏗️
Construction Site Fire Protection
Large construction sites use portable monitors to provide fire protection before permanent sprinkler or monitor systems are installed. The monitor can be repositioned as construction progresses through different areas of the site, eliminating the need for multiple fixed installations at different construction phases.
🚢
Marine & Shipyard Operations
Portable monitors are used at vessel repair berths and shipyard dry docks where the work area changes constantly and fixed monitors cannot cover all positions. The monitor is moved to the active work location each day and repositioned as hot work moves around the vessel.
🔥
Wildfire Perimeter Defence
Portable monitors provide a rapid high-flow water attack capability for defending structures and creating wet lines during wildfire perimeter defence operations. A single PS10/80W-L at 80 L/s delivers substantially more water than multiple hose lines operated by the same number of personnel.

Frequently Asked Questions — Portable Fire Monitor PS10-80W-L

A portable fire monitor (also called a portable ground monitor or portable fire water monitor) is a free-standing, high-flow water nozzle device that can be deployed rapidly on the ground without a fixed pipe base. It connects to a supply hose, is aimed manually and discharges a high-flow water stream (20–80 L/s) over long distances (≥50–85 m). Unlike a fixed monitor, a portable monitor can be repositioned and redeployed to different locations within a fire scene as the incident develops.
Aluminium alloy is used for the portable monitor because weight is the primary design constraint for portable equipment. An aluminium monitor is significantly lighter than a stainless steel monitor of equivalent flow capacity, making it practical for one or two firefighters to carry, set up and reposition during an incident. The fixed PS and PL Series monitors use stainless steel because corrosion resistance and long service life are the priority for permanent outdoor installations — weight is not a concern for fixed equipment.
Select based on required flow rate: PS8/20W-L (20 L/s, ≥50 m) for small supplementary positions; PS8/30W-L (30 L/s, ≥60 m) for standard emergency response; PS8/40W-L (40 L/s, ≥65 m) for general industrial sites; PS10/50W-L (50 L/s, ≥70 m) for airport ARFF and large industrial emergency positions; PS10/60W-L (60 L/s, ≥75 m) for larger sites; PS10/80W-L (80 L/s, ≥85 m) for maximum flow and range at petrochemical, refinery or large-site emergency response.
No. The portable monitor is designed to stand on the ground on its own integral base legs — no fixed pipe base, anchor bolts or foundation are required. The monitor connects to a fire hose coupling inlet and can be set up on any reasonably flat surface. Setup and deployment require no tools and can be completed by one person in under one minute.
The monitor inlet uses a standard fire hose coupling. The specific coupling standard (GB, BS, ANSI or Storz) is specified at order to match the fire hose fittings in use at the installation site or by the fire brigade operating the equipment. Please confirm the required coupling standard when requesting a quote so CA-FIRE can supply the correct inlet fitting.
The PS10-80W-L is a water-only monitor and does not have an integrated air-aspirating foam device. For dedicated portable foam-water capability, specify the PL Series portable foam-water monitor. However, the PS10-80W-L can be used as part of a foam system where a foam proportioner is installed upstream in the supply hose — the foam solution mixed upstream will discharge as foam from the monitor nozzle without requiring an aspirating device on the monitor itself, depending on the foam concentrate type used.
