Direct Handle Operation for Fast Foam-Water Fire Attack

Model Range: PL8/24 · PL8/32 · PL8/40 · PL10/48 · PL10/64

The CA-FIRE PL Series is a fixed foam-water combined fire monitor operated by a manual handle. It optimises flow through the nozzle body and nozzle tip to achieve the best possible throw range at each flow rate. The monitor body can be rotated horizontally and elevated vertically, and the adjustable nozzle tip switches between straight jet and spray pattern.

The integrated air-aspirating foam device allows the monitor to discharge foam-water mixture in addition to straight water — making the PL Series the standard fire monitor solution for petrochemical plants, oil storage tank farms, warehouses, airports, docks and ports where Class B flammable liquid protection is required.

Key Design Features

💧
Foam-Water Dual Medium
The integrated air-aspirating foam device enables discharge of either straight water or foam-water mixture from the same monitor. Switching medium requires no special tools and does not interrupt flow. Essential for Class B flammable liquid fire suppression.
🔄
Full 360° Rotation
The monitor body rotates a full 360° horizontally and elevates from –15° (depression) to +60° above horizontal. This range covers both ground-level tank fires and elevated vessel fires without repositioning the base.
🎯
Adjustable Nozzle Pattern
The nozzle tip adjusts continuously between a focused straight jet for maximum throw range and a wide spray cone for area cooling, vapour suppression and personnel protection. Both positions are available mid-operation.
🛡️
Full Stainless Steel Body
Entire flow path — body, nozzle, fittings — manufactured in SS 304 stainless steel. Provides long-term corrosion resistance in outdoor, marine and chemically aggressive environments without surface treatment or re-coating.
Single Operator, No Tools
Handle operation is designed for one person. The monitor can be aimed, locked and the nozzle adjusted without assistance or tools. PL8/24–PL8/40 models use a direct handle; PL10/48–PL10/64 use a handwheel for higher-flow control comfort.
🔩
Compatible with PZ Base
The PL Series mates directly to the PZ Series flanged pipe base for fixed riser installation. The base provides a stable, leak-free connection to the supply main and can accommodate multiple monitor sizes without modifying the pipework.

Typical Applications

🏭
Petrochemical Plants
PL monitors are installed at process units, pump skids and loading gantries where both water and foam-water discharge are specified. The foam capability is essential for cooling equipment and suppressing pool fires involving fuel and process liquids.
Oil Storage Tank Farms
Fixed PL monitors on PZ bases around tank bunds provide foam-water attack capability for tank surface fires and bund pool fires. The ≥60 m throw range allows monitors to be positioned outside the bund wall at a safe distance from burning fuel.
✈️
Airports & Hangars
Hangar fire protection systems frequently specify foam-water monitors for aircraft fuel fire suppression. PL monitors complement deluge systems by providing a directed attack capability from the hangar perimeter.
🚢
Ports, Docks & Wharves
Marine fuel transfer areas, tanker berths and cargo handling facilities require foam-water monitor coverage. The SS 304 stainless body resists the salt-spray corrosion inherent in coastal installations.
🏗️
Industrial Warehouses
Flammable liquid storage warehouses, paint stores and solvent handling facilities use PL monitors as supplementary suppression to automatic systems. The adjustable nozzle allows the medium to be switched from cooling spray to foam attack as the fire situation develops.
🔥
Emergency Response Staging
Industrial sites often specify a number of PL monitors at fixed emergency response positions throughout the facility. During a major incident, pre-positioned monitors allow rapid deployment without the delay of bringing in mobile equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions — PL Foam-Water Monitor

A foam-water fire monitor is a combined water/foam nozzle device that can discharge either straight water or a foam-water mixture from the same monitor, depending on how the nozzle is configured and whether foam concentrate is being injected into the supply line. It is required wherever Class B fire risk exists — that is, wherever flammable liquids such as petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, solvents or crude oil are stored or handled. Standards including NFPA 11, NFPA 15 and GB 50151 specify foam-water monitor systems for these occupancies.
The PL8 Series (PL8/24, PL8/32, PL8/40) operates at a rated pressure of 0.8 MPa and flows 24–40 L/s. These models use a direct handle for aiming. The PL10 Series (PL10/48, PL10/64) operates at 1.0 MPa and flows 48–64 L/s. At these higher flow rates, nozzle reaction forces make a direct handle uncomfortable to hold; the PL10 models therefore use a handwheel that provides greater mechanical advantage for comfortable one-person operation. Both series share the same maximum working pressure (1.6 MPa) and the same throw range specification (≥60 m).
The PL Series nozzle incorporates an air-aspirating device. When foam concentrate is injected into the supply water upstream (by a proportioner, bladder tank or inline inductor), the nozzle aspirates air into the foam solution as it discharges, producing finished low-expansion foam. To switch to water-only mode, the foam concentrate supply is simply shut off — no nozzle adjustment is required. The nozzle pattern (straight jet vs. spray) is adjusted separately by rotating the nozzle tip and is independent of the water/foam medium selection.
The PL Series mounts on the CA-FIRE PZ Series flanged pipe base, which provides a flanged inlet connection to the supply main. The flange standard (ANSI B16.1, DIN 2501 PN16, or GB standard) can be specified at order. The monitor itself connects to the base via a rotating bearing joint that allows full 360° horizontal rotation without any rotary union required in the supply pipework.
Yes. The worm-gear (turbine-worm) version of the PL Series is a separate product — the PL Turbine-Worm Foam-Water Monitor. It uses the same flow body and nozzle as the handle version, but replaces the direct handle with a worm-gear handwheel mechanism. The worm-gear version is recommended for PL10/48 and PL10/64 applications where the monitor will be operated for extended periods or where it must be left aimed at a fixed point without an operator holding it (the worm-gear self-locks in position).
CA-FIRE PL Series monitors are manufactured under ISO 9001 quality management and designed to Chinese national standard GB 15746 (Fire Monitors). Test certificates covering flow rate, pressure, throw range and structural integrity are available for each batch. For projects specifying NFPA 11, NFPA 15 or API standards, CA-FIRE can provide full technical submittals — including performance data sheets, dimensional drawings and material certifications — upon request.
