The CA-FIRE PS Series is a fixed fire water monitor operated by a manual handle or handwheel. It is the most versatile product in the CA-FIRE fire monitor range — available in the widest model selection, covering flow rates from 30 L/s up to 80 L/s, and in both stainless steel (SS 304) and aluminium alloy body materials to suit different installation requirements.

The PS Series discharges water only, making it the standard specification for Class A fire risk applications — warehouses, industrial plants, power stations, airports, railway depots, harbours and large commercial facilities. The adjustable nozzle switches between a straight jet for maximum throw range (≥60–85 m) and a spray cone for cooling and personnel protection without interrupting water flow.

Stainless Steel vs Aluminium Alloy — Which to Specify

Standard Choice
Stainless Steel SS 304
  • Excellent corrosion resistance — suitable for outdoor, coastal and chemically aggressive environments
  • No surface coating required — zero maintenance on body corrosion
  • Higher body mass provides stability under nozzle reaction forces in fixed installations
  • Full flow range available: PS8/30W through PS10/80W (30–80 L/s)
  • Preferred for permanent fixed riser installations on PZ bases
  • ⚠️ Heavier than aluminium — not ideal for portable or height-mounted applications
Lightweight Option
Aluminium Alloy ("-L" models)
  • Significantly lighter than SS models — easier to handle, reposition or carry
  • Reduces structural load when mounted on elevated platforms or towers
  • Available PS8/20W-L through PS10/80W-L (20–80 L/s)
  • Cost-effective option for semi-fixed and temporary installations
  • ⚠️ Lower corrosion resistance than SS in salt-spray or chemical environments
  • ⚠️ Surface may require periodic inspection in aggressive environments

Key Design Features

📐
Widest Model Range
The PS Series covers more flow rates than any other CA-FIRE monitor — from 20 L/s (PS8/20W-L aluminium) to 80 L/s (PS10/80W). This means a single product family covers everything from small facility supplementary monitors to main attack monitors on large industrial sites.
🎯
Adjustable Nozzle Pattern
The nozzle tip rotates continuously between a focused straight jet for maximum throw range (up to ≥85 m at PS10/80W) and a wide spray cone for area cooling, vapour cloud dilution and personnel protection curtains. Pattern adjustment does not interrupt water discharge.
🔄
Full 360° Rotation
The monitor body rotates a full 360° horizontally and elevates from –15° depression to +60° above horizontal, providing complete coverage of the protected area from a single fixed installation point without repositioning the base.
Simple Single-Operator Use
PS8 models (30–40 L/s) use a direct handle for fast, intuitive aiming — one operator deploys and aims without assistance. PS10 higher-flow models use a handwheel for comfortable control under greater nozzle reaction forces. No tools required for nozzle adjustment.
🔩
PZ Base Compatible
The PS Series inlet flange mates directly to the PZ Series pipe base for fixed installation. The same base fits both PS and PL Series monitors interchangeably — future upgrades or model changes require no pipework modification.
⬆️
Worm-Gear Upgrade Path
Any PS Handle monitor can be upgraded to the PS Turbine-Worm model at any time on the same base — the worm-gear version shares the same inlet flange. The upgrade adds self-locking aim position without any pipework changes, useful when flow rates or operational requirements change after installation.

Typical Applications

🏗️
Warehouses & Logistics Centres
Fixed PS monitors on PZ bases are installed around the perimeter and at internal bays of high-bay warehouses and distribution centres. The ≥85 m range of PS10/80W models allows monitors to cover the full width of large warehouse bays from a single elevated platform position.
Power Plants & Substations
PS monitors are specified at transformer bays, turbine halls, cable vaults and switchgear rooms in power generation and distribution facilities. The water-only medium is compatible with electrical equipment fire protection where foam application is not required.
✈️
Airports & MRO Facilities
Fixed PS water monitors complement foam-water systems in airport maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hangars and ground support equipment areas. Aluminium alloy models are specified where reduced structural load on platform mounts is a design requirement.
🚢
Ports & Container Terminals
SS 304 stainless steel models are installed at container terminal quayside positions, port warehouses and vessel loading facilities where salt-spray corrosion makes stainless steel the only practical long-term body material. PS10/50W and PS10/60W are the most commonly specified models at port facilities.
🏭
General Industrial Plants
Manufacturing plants, steel mills, paper mills, food processing facilities and general industrial occupancies use PS monitors as primary or supplementary suppression. The wide flow range covers both small auxiliary positions (PS8/30W) and large main attack positions (PS10/80W) within the same facility.
🚂
Railway Depots & Maintenance Sheds
Railway maintenance depots, locomotive sheds and rolling stock maintenance facilities specify PS monitors for fire protection of maintenance bays. The adjustable spray cone nozzle provides a protective water curtain for staff working adjacent to fire-affected rolling stock.

Frequently Asked Questions — PS Handle Water Monitor

The PS Series is a fixed fire water monitor for general industrial and infrastructure fire protection — including warehouses, power plants, airports, railway depots, harbours and large commercial buildings. It discharges water only (not foam), making it the standard fire monitor choice for Class A fire risk occupancies. It is the most widely specified fixed fire monitor type worldwide because it covers the broadest range of applications with a single product family.
Stainless steel (SS 304) models are the standard choice for fixed outdoor and industrial installations — providing long-term corrosion resistance without surface coating maintenance. Aluminium alloy ("-L") models are lighter, making them easier to handle in portable or semi-fixed applications and reducing structural load when mounted at height on platforms or towers. Both materials provide identical flow performance and pressure ratings across their overlapping model ranges.
The PS8 series (PS8/30W, PS8/40W) operates at a rated pressure of 0.8 MPa with flows of 30–40 L/s and throw ranges of ≥60–65 m. PS8 models use a direct handle. The PS10 series (PS10/50W through PS10/80W) operates at 1.0–1.6 MPa with flows of 50–80 L/s and throw ranges of ≥70–85 m. PS10 models use a handwheel for more comfortable high-flow control. Both series are available in stainless steel; aluminium alloy variants cover PS8/20W-L through PS10/80W-L.
The PS10/50W-B is a variant of the PS10/50W rated for a higher working pressure of 1.6 MPa instead of the standard 1.0 MPa. It is specified where the fire protection supply system operates at elevated pressures — for example in high-rise building fire systems or high-pressure industrial fire mains. The flow rate (50 L/s) and throw range (≥70 m) are the same as the standard PS10/50W.
The handle model is recommended for PS8 series (30–40 L/s) where the direct handle gives fast traverse and simple operation. For PS10 series at 60 L/s and above, the turbine-worm model is preferred because its self-locking worm-gear holds the aim point precisely under high nozzle reaction forces without operator effort. The handle model remains a valid, simpler and more cost-effective choice for PS10/50W where budget or installation simplicity is the priority.
No — the PS Series is a water-only monitor. It does not have an air-aspirating foam device. For foam-water combined discharge capability, the PL Series (PL Handle or PL Turbine-Worm Foam-Water Monitor) should be specified instead. The PL and PS Series share the same PZ base interface, so both monitor types can be installed on identical base infrastructure within the same facility.
