Horizontal Foam Bladder Tank — PHYM Series Low-Profile Pressure Proportioning Device

Horizontal Foam Bladder Tank — Key Features

📐

Low-Profile Horizontal Configuration — Installs Where Vertical Tanks Cannot

The defining installation advantage of the horizontal foam bladder tank
is its low profile. Orienting the pressure vessel horizontally reduces installed height
significantly — making it the only practical foam bladder tank configuration for
underground pump rooms, basement plant rooms, shipboard
suppression systems
, and any installation where ceiling height prevents
a vertical tank.

The horizontal orientation also distributes tank weight across a larger floor area,
reducing foundation load concentration and simplifying structural support requirements.

Fits Low-Ceiling & Underground Spaces

🎯

±0.3% Mixing Accuracy — Across Full 4–360 L/s Flow Range

The PHYM horizontal foam bladder tank maintains foam concentrate
delivery accuracy within ±0.3% of the rated 3% or 6% mixing ratio
across the full 4–360 L/s operating flow range — passively, without electronic
controls or operator adjustment.

Under-concentration reduces foam stability and fire knockdown. Over-concentration
wastes expensive concentrate. The bladder’s hydraulic balance mechanism holds the ratio
stable across the complete working pressure range of 0.6–1.2 MPa.

±0.3% — Exceeds NFPA 11 Requirements

🔒

Bladder Isolation — Concentrate Preserved, Reusable After Partial Discharge

The rubber bladder inside the horizontal foam bladder tank physically
separates foam concentrate from the pressurised water supply at all times during storage
and operation. Water cannot enter the concentrate side — the mechanism by which foam
concentrate degrades in open-tank systems.

After a partial discharge, unused concentrate remains in the bladder in full-quality
condition — ready for reuse at the next activation without replacement.
Shelf life: typically 10–25 years depending on concentrate type.

Fully Customisable — Tank Volume, Pipe Diameter and Flow Rate to Order

CA-FIRE supplies the PHYM horizontal foam bladder tank configured
precisely to the hydraulic model of each suppression system. Tank volume (0.5–13.0 m³),
main pipe diameter (DN80–DN250), and proportioner flow capacity (4–360 L/s) are all
adjustable — matching required discharge duration and peak flow exactly.

No forced over-specification to the nearest catalogue size. Free hydraulic sizing
support
provided by CA-FIRE’s engineering team for every project — NFPA 11,
NFPA 16 or GB standard.

Horizontal vs. Vertical Foam Bladder Tank — Which to Specify?

Both configurations deliver identical proportioning performance (±0.3%). The decision is driven entirely by the physical dimensions of the installation space:

Parameter Horizontal Bladder Tank (PHYM) Vertical Bladder Tank (PHY)
Installed height ✓ Low — fits restricted headroom Higher — requires ceiling clearance
Floor footprint Larger — longer saddle-mounted footprint ✓ Compact — smaller floor area
Underground / basement rooms ✓ Preferred — low profile fits — Less suitable
Shipboard installation ✓ Standard choice for vessels — Space constraints usually prohibit
Above-ground pump rooms Suitable ✓ Preferred — maximises floor space
Maximum flow rate 4–360 L/s (widest range) 8–120 L/s
Tank volume range 0.5–13.0 m³ 0.5–13.0 m³
Proportioning accuracy ±0.3% ±0.3%
Mixing ratio 3% or 6% 3% or 6%
